About The Author
Ralph Harper
Ralph Harper was born and raised in Birmingham, AL in the 1960s. For a short stint, he lived in a three-room house with his two parents, two sisters and seven brothers. His mother Catherine Louise Harper was -without question – the leader and the “rock” in the family. Her strict rules were non-negotiable. While her discipline was course, she was purposeful with her intentions. She simply wanted her children to survive in a time and culture fraught with racism and discrimination.
Harper graduated from Jackson-Olin High School and Talladega College in Alabama. His focus was in the areas of Information Technology and Business Administration.
Harper worked with PepsiCo (both Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay) for many years – in Westchester New York and in Plano, TX. In these capacities, he was responsible for managing multimillion dollar Information Technology distributed systems projects.
Today, Harper owns a couple of businesses and is currently investing in new small business ventures. He is an author, speaker and a philanthropist. His nonprofit organization is “The 2060’s Project.”
Harper’s current book, Own The Change – “How Our Children Will Lead the Next Cultural Movement” represents the core of his life’s purpose. His mission in life is to dictate positive life trajectories of young, underserved children – especially children perceived unlikely to succeed.

“Imagine the power of the young teenager mentoring the eight-year-old. The teenager approaches the young child with the question of the week: “Did you read ten pages in your book today?” Our children need to be constantly groomed and led in the direction of smart choices.”
02
“When I consider the aspects of parenting, the notion of saving a child’s life and sustaining it is and should be the parent’s absolute number one priority. The second priority of the parent is and should be to start the process of developing their child for the workforce.”
03
“Your integrity will be valued based on how you cause others to feel about you or view you, determined in part by how they assess your values.”
04
“I have come to realize the power of such a dynamic. Sometimes the messages delivered to children by other children can be more compelling and meaningful than the same messages delivered by a biological parent or an adult.”
A Message from The Author
OWN THE CHANGE
Each time I read the data points on illiteracy in the United States, I am baffled by the fact The United States of America – is ranked so high in terms of economics and (ironically) illiteracy rates.
It is well-known – not all parents are equal. In fact, a very large fraction of parents in the United States is considered functionally-illiterate. Consequently, because reading is so foundational to succeeding here, far too many children are not being appropriately groomed by their respective parents, and, in many cases, by their teachers, to achieve adequate success.
Consider the following numbers from a study by the National Literacy Institute. “On average, 79% of U.S. adults nationwide are “literate” in 2024. Twenty-one percent of adults are illiterate in 2024. Fifty-four percent of adults have a literacy rate below sixth-grade level. Twenty percent are below fifth-grade level. Low levels of illiteracy cost the United States up to 2.2 trillion per year.”
Because illiteracy is breeding illiteracy in a very large fraction of United States’ homes, poverty, homelessness, and crime persists.
After reflecting on my life trajectory for as many years, I questioned why I wasn’t successful earlier in my life. Then I traversed the processes that eventually represented the basis for my achievements in the United States. I had an epiphany about what is really required to WIN here—in the most prosperous nation in the world. I was embarrassed by the simplicity of the model I conjured up in my brain… the model I refer to as the WIN Model.
My Book, “Own The Change – How Our Children Will Lead The Next Cultural Movement” features a simplistic but fantastically useful guide to children starting early to lay the foundational basis for their inevitable success in the United States of America. The Model features three important buckets of accountability:
1 . Workforce Development
2 . Integrity
3 . Next Generation
Let’s go to work. Please read “Own the Change.” Then, make sure your children are… owning their respective change.

In “Own The Change” Harper explores the deeply rooted social and economic challenges that haunt the United States youth-culture yet still. Nonetheless, his intent is not to simply make the point. Harper offers a roadmap, that he calls the WIN Model, as a sound solution to a persisting problem.
With keen focus on accountability, the book outlines a strategic plan for parents, teachers mentors, and teenagers—to actively take charge of our children’s respective life-trajectory.
Harper’s roadmap for success is solidly proven and – some might argue, simplistic. Nonetheless, “Own The Change” provides the foundational life-principles required to succeed in the United States and other capitalistic cultures worldwide.
The book is a must read for parents and children.
